Distopias Are A Cool Examination Of The Human Condition

There appear to be more Distopias coming out of the movie industry nowadays. Distopias are basically an alternate view of Utopia, where a society appears flawless and orderly on the outside, but as you get deeper into the story, you notice that the society actually is tyrannical and overly controlling. These movies are either usually futuristic or science fiction, or both, and they are a great window into the human condition.

A few weeks ago, my cousin’s history teacher was wanting to show the movie The Patriot. He is 13. Besides by obvious problems with its historic inaccuracies, making me shake my head as to the reasons why a history teacher would ever want to show it, it’s especially violent and has some particularly brutal slow and drawn out killing scenes.

Even though the motion picture industry isn’t the best example of morals and wholesomeness, they sometimes still find a way to put out a goldmine or two. Regardless of what anyone says about how shallow films are, humans has been telling stories for thousands of years and will continue to do so for the rest of time. The oral tradition is one of mankind’s most sacred traditions, one that past generations would use to teach and instruct.

Should Adolescent Stardom Be Legal?

We don’t let kids smoke cigarettes. We don’t let kids drink alcohol. We don’t let kids gamble. Why not? Because these things are all heavily addictive and can set the course of a young person’s life down a bad road. So why in the world are we so ready and enthusiastic to offer kids wealth and celebrity?
