When NASA scientists strived endlessly against their Soviet Union counterparts in the space race, they did not know that every innovation they made would still reverberate today. As both tackled the problems with space for a society which adheres to gravity, they did not know that the thousands of satellites they belched into space – including Sputnik, the most famous of them all – would have a modern day usage in the commonplace technology of GPS tracking.
